Thunderstorm Sounds for Sleeping.

A good sleep storm is all about distance: steady rain up close, thunder far enough away to rumble instead of crack. Preview NoiseTape's thunderstorm below, then loop it all night with the fade-out timer.

02 — WHY IT WORKS

Why storms make people sleepy.

Thunderstorm audio works on two layers at once. The rain supplies broadband masking — a natural cousin of pink noise that covers voices, traffic and hallway sounds. The thunder adds slow, low-frequency swells that rise and fade over many seconds, giving your attention something soft to follow down. There is a cozy psychology to it too: a storm outside signals that inside — warm, dry, nothing to do — is exactly where you should be.

The catch with storm recordings is surprise: a sharp crack at 3 a.m. defeats the purpose. NoiseTape's thunderstorm keeps the thunder distant and rolling, with no sudden peaks, and loops seamlessly for a full night. Pair it with the sleep timer and the storm fades out gradually once you are under — or let it rumble till morning.

03 — FAQ

Storm sound questions, answered.

01

Why do thunderstorms make me sleepy?

Several ordinary things stack up: steady rain acts as natural masking noise, low rumbling thunder rises and fades too slowly to trigger alertness, dimmed storm light nudges melatonin, and being warm and dry while weather happens outside reads to the brain as safety. Storm audio recreates the first two — the parts a recording can deliver.

02

Will the thunder wake me up?

Not this one. NoiseTape's thunderstorm is mixed for sleep: the thunder stays distant and rolling, without the close, cracking strikes that spike a recording's volume. The loop is seamless and gap-free, so there is no restart seam to catch your ear at 4 a.m. either.

03

Is a thunderstorm better than plain rain for sleeping?

It is a matter of taste. Plain rain is more uniform, which suits people who want pure, even masking; a thunderstorm adds slow variation that many find more immersive and easier to drift into. NoiseTape includes both — 22 rain scenes and a thunderstorm — so a ten-second preview of each settles it.

04

Can I play thunderstorm sounds offline all night?

Yes. NoiseTape's thunderstorm is a seamless loop tuned for 8-hour sessions, plays fully offline with the screen locked on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and the sleep timer fades it out gradually in the final minute. No ads, no account, no stream to buffer at 2 a.m.
